Ride the Bus? You’re Already Making a Positive Impact on the Environment

If you’re a regular bus rider, you’re already making a big, positive impact on the environment. That’s because one of the most effective ways to reduce the effects of global warming and protect the Earth is by using public transit.

Here are a few reasons why:

  • One bus with seven or more commuters is more fuel-efficient than one car with one commuter.
A full bus is six times more fuel-efficient than one car with one commuter. Buses use nearly 9-percent less energy per passenger mile – that means it takes less energy to move one person one mile on a bus than in a car.
  • Using public transportation like RTS saves more than 855 million gallons of gasoline or 45 million barrels of oil per year.
  • One person with a 20-mile round trip commute who switches from driving to public transit can reduce his or her carbon emissions by than 4,800 pounds in a year.

Want to learn more about the positive environmental impact of public transit?  Check out this information from the American Public Transit Association.
