Three Ways to Pay Starts July 15

June 15, 2020

On July 15, RTS will introduce three new ways to pay for fares in Monroe County:

1.  RTS Go mobile
2.  RTS Go cards
3.  Exact Change with cash

RTS Go

RTS Go is available as a reloadable card or on your mobile phone through Transit app. RTS Go allows us to offer “fare capping” --  when you use RTS Go, you’ll never pay more than $3 in a day or $56 in a month ($1.50 or $28 for reduced fare customers). The technology behind RTS Go knows when you’ve reached a daily or monthly limit – and stops charging you for fares!

Exact Change

Starting on July 15, you must have exact change to pay for fares on the bus.  Fare boxes will no longer be able to provide change cards.  In addition to paying for regular fare with exact change ($1 for adults; $0.50 for reduced fare customers), you can buy an all-day pass on the bus with exact change ($3 or $1.50 reduced fare).

New and Old Passes

If you have a Tap & Go! or magnetic stripe pass, you can still use them to pay for fares.  While RTS will stop selling them on July 6, you can continue to use the Tap & Go! and magnetic stripe passes you have through December 31, 2020.

Also on July 6, we will start selling “blue passes” on myRTS.com; they will also be available for purchase on the bus starting July 15. Instead of swiping or dipping on the farebox, you will tap these passes on the new RTS Go validator.
