The public transportation industry is going through a transformation, with new technologies and mobility options at the forefront of this change. This is why, through Reimagine RTS, we are reimagining public transit in our region. Transit systems around the country are implementing new and innovative ways to connect customers to their respective communities.  We're exploring these changes in a new series called “Innovations in Transit.”

In Dayton, Ohio, the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has created RTA Connect, a one-stop shop for customers to access all of RTA’s alternative forms of transportation. The options available to customers are paratransit service, premium service, on demand, a group shopping shuttle, bike sharing, and a mobility coordination partnership. Their paratransit and bike share programs are similar to what we have here in our community, and the group shopping shuttle is similar to what we do with some of our regional operations.

Their premium service allows customers to reserve trips. The fare for this service includes the reserving customers as well as traveling companions who board and disembark at the same locations. RTA customers can access their on demand service by going to the nearest RTA Connect stop and entering a code into the Lyft mobile app or by calling RTA to book a ride. The on demand fare is the same as RTA’s one-way fare and the service connects customers to transfer points where their bus service is fast and frequent. More details about the RTA Connect program is available through the on the RTA website at i-riderta.org/rta-connect/index.
