Reimagine RTS Update

 

Reimagine RTS has released its proposed guiding principles and goals. These are important because they are based on the feedback gathered during the first phase of Reimagine RTS and they will be the foundation of the redesigned system. Here’s a recap of what we did and what we learned during phase one:

Phase 1 Highlights

• 11,744 surveys
• 19 Community outreach events
• 11 employee meetings & events
• Top 3 Priorities: Frequent service; Faster, more direct trips; 30 minutes or less wait time

Based on this, our consultant, Transportation Management & Design, Inc. (TMD), identified five guiding principles and related goals. The guiding principles are the themes of the new system and the goals define what we want to accomplish. They are:

• Guiding Principle: Maximize Ridership
  Goal: Increase the total number of boardings 
• Guiding Principle: Enhance the Customer Experience
  Goal: Decrease customer wait time
  Goal: Decrease customer travel time 
• Guiding Principle: Ensure System Sustainability
  Goal: Decrease the per-passenger net cost 
• Guiding Principle: Expand Public Transit to Include More Mobility Options
  Goal: Increase the diversity of services available to customers 
• Guiding Principle: Coordinate with Community Initiatives
  Goal: Encourage community development around the frequent transit network
  
  

What’s Next?
TMD is now developing the draft route structure they will recommend in May. We’ll then reach out to the public again, asking for your feedback on the recommendations.

In late summer, TMD will provide their final recommendations. RTS will again share this information with the public to ensure any changes we make line up with the feedback we received during the study. After that, we will start to make final decisions and develop a timeline to put changes into place.
