Regional Transit Service (RTS) announced today the introduction of a new route that will provide service between the RTS Transit Center and the Rochester Public Market starting tomorrow, Thursday, July 1, 2021. The new route, which is called the Route 71 Public Market Special, will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays. Service on the new route will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursdays and 8:00 a.m. on Saturdays. Buses will run every hour with the last trip leaving the RTS Transit Center at Noon, arriving at the Public Market at 12:12 p.m., and returning to the Transit Center by 12:30 p.m. There is a flyer available on the RTS website with details, including the route map.

“The need for people to have access to fresh food is a critically important issue in our community and this new route will help address that issue by making it easier to get to the Rochester Public Market,” RTS CEO Bill Carpenter said. “It was always our intent to provide improved access to the Public Market once Reimagine RTS was implemented. I thank Mayor Warren, City Councilmember Patterson, and the team at the Rochester Public Market for working with us to find the best way to achieve that goal.”

“I want to thank RTS for working with us to ensure access for everyone to healthy and affordable food at the Public Market,” said Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren. “This special bus route is a small, but vital part of our efforts to provide equity and fairness to all of Rochester’s citizens.”

"I want to commend Bill Carpenter and his team at RTS for meeting with us to solve this problem and serve this vital community need,” said Rochester City Council Member Michael Patterson. “Residents that are dependent on the bus for transportation will now have access to a bus that will take them from the Transit Center to the Public Market and back quickly and efficiently. It is my hope that all residents will use this bus. I especially hope that folks who live within walking distance of the Transit Center will use it."
