Tax season is well underway and I’m sure everyone is excited to get this year’s refund from Uncle Sam. Did you know that you'll be on your way to savings this year in no time thanks to the U.S. Federal Tax Code Section 132(f)? This section of the tax code states that you can use pre-tax dollars (up to a certain amount) for transit, parking, vanpooling and bike sharing. For RTS customers, this means you may save on average $192 per year, which equates to a 29-percent savings on your yearly commute!*

Sounds great, right? Here’s what you need to do to realize those savings:

Contact your Human Resources Department. The Federal tax code allows the use of tax-free dollars to pay for bus commuting through employer-sponsored programs. Your employer can also save up to 7.65-percent on payroll taxes by offering monthly bus pass vouchers for their employees – up to $52 per year per employee. If they want to offer a parking benefit, too,  they could save up to $282 per year per employee. It’s easy for your employer to enroll! All they need to do is contact their benefits provider or contact Commuter Check .**

It’s just that easy! With all your savings, you’ll be able to spend your extra $$ for fun around town! Check out how RTS can get you there at myRTS.com/Fun

* Estimate based on the maximum pretax contribution of $56/month for an RTS Bus Pass. Information based upon a 15-percent tax bracket (most common) and from the FY 2016-IRC Section 132 (f) RS Tax Code. If you usually spend $56 for an unlimited monthly RTS bus pass – or $672 per year – you’ll be saving 28.5-percent on your yearly commute.
** All programs are run through employers, not through RTS.
