Addition will improve connectivity by expanding Authority’s reach to eight counties

Today, Rochester Genesee Regional Transit Authority’s CEO Bill Carpenter announced that Ontario County’s transit service (CATS) is now officially part of the RGRTA family. The announcement follows a decision that was made earlier by the Ontario County Board of Supervisors on May 8, 2014.

The service will continue to be called Ontario County Transportation Service (CATS).

RGRTA CEO Bill Carpenter says, “This is a significant milestone for RGRTA and for Ontario County residents. While RTS, WATS, and STS provide connections for customers to Eastview Mall, medical centers and Finger Lakes Community College, we now have the potential to expand and enhance public transit service across our entire regional service area. I wish to acknowledge everyone who has participated in this process—with special thanks to our COO Daniele Coll-Gonzalez and Director of Business Development (and Ontario County resident)  Bonnie Maguire.”

RGRTA will provide centralized infrastructure and oversight for all administrative and operating functions, such as Finance, Service Planning, Scheduling, Operations, Maintenance, Information Technology, and Human Resources. Additionally, the Authority assumes responsibility for Procurement and Grants Administration.

Based on the County’s population, Ontario County would recommend two individuals to the Governor, one of whom will be appointed to the RGRTA Board of Commissioners. The Governor’s choice must be approved by the NYS Senate. RGRTA is committed to providing the same service that is currently in place and is assessing  current staffing levels and structure to maintain optimal best practices and productivity.
