Morning bus service cancellations possible

due to temporary Bus Operator shortage

RTS customers are advised that some weekday morning trips on 23 bus routes may be canceled due to a temporary shortage of bus operators.  The impacted trips are scheduled between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m.   Due to unusually high rates of illness and absence and more retirements than normal, RTS has a temporary shortage of @20 bus operators.  As a result, customers are advised that some morning trips on these designated routes may be unavailable until further notice.  Particular times were chosen because they have the lowest ridership. The list is posted on www.myRTS.com.  While the number of trips is impacted, customers still have options to get to and from their destinations, and can board another bus on the route within 30 to 60 minutes of these schedule times.

*Impacted routes are: 1, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 16, 24, 28, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 39, 40, 47, 48, 57, 81, 82, 102, and 103.

Daily service alerts will be posted on myRTS.com between 5:15 a.m. and 8 a.m.; posted on social media, and announcements will be made at the RTS Transit Center.  Customers can also sign up to receive daily notifications via text, voice or email by registering online at myRTS.comcontacting RTS Customer Service between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 585-288-1700 or by emailing Monroe@myRTS.com.

“We are truly sorry for the inconvenience this temporary situation has caused our customers,” said RTS Chief Operating Officer Miguel Velazquez.   “While 99% of our scheduled service is still in regular operation, we know that 20,000 customers rely on RTS daily to travel to and from work, school, shopping, health care appointments, and other destinations.  Given our solid track record for reliability and on-time performance that consistently exceeds 90%, our customers have come to expect and depend upon our service.  We are working aggressively to fill these unanticipated vacancies.”    He added that some Operators have taken on overtime or additional shifts.  RTS has also accelerated the completion of a Bus Operator training class now underway, which will put eight new Operators on the road in the next few weeks.  Another new class of Operators will begin in early April.
