RTS CEO Bill Carpenter Announces Retirement

Regional Transit Service (RTS) CEO Bill Carpenter announced at today’s meeting of the RGRTA Board of Commissioners that he will retire by the end of June 2023.

“It has been a privilege to serve RTS for the past 12 years, including 11 as Chief Executive Officer, and to work side-by-side with the most dedicated and hardest-working group of individuals I have ever worked with,” said Carpenter. “I thank the RGRTA Board of Commissioners for entrusting me with the responsibility to serve and support our employees and customers. I thank the RTS team for showing me the true meaning of service, for everything they have done for me personally and professionally, and for everything they continue doing for our community. I thank the many stakeholders and leaders we have worked with throughout the RTS service area for their collaboration, partnership, and support. And I thank the customers of RTS for working with us every day to build a transit system that meets their needs and provides the best service possible.”

Following Carpenter’s announcement, the RGRTA Board of Commissioners passed a resolution authorizing the search for the next CEO of RTS. There is a specific process the Board follows in this situation, which includes steps for both internal and external searches.

“On behalf of the RGRTA Board of Commissioners and every RTS employee, I thank Bill for his commitment to RTS, the community, and the people we serve,” said Don Jeffries, Chairman of the RGRTA Board of Commissioners. “Bill led RTS with a steady hand through periods of achievement, challenge, and change, and always with an eye towards doing what was best for our employees and customers. With Bill’s official notice in hand, the Board will immediately begin its search for the next CEO of RTS. We will begin that process by prioritizing an internal search. At the end of that process, we will either appoint a new candidate as CEO or expand the search to include external candidates. The Board is confident that this process will help us identify the right person to be the next CEO of RTS and build on the legacy that Bill leaves behind.”
