Regional Transit Service (RTS) was recognized in the past week with two national transit industry awards. The first is the 2021 Urban Transportation System of the Year award from the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA). The second award is an Innovative Solutions Award from METRO Magazine, which was awarded to RTS and Masabi.

CTAA 2021 Urban Transportation System of the Year Award

RTS was presented with the 2021 Urban Transportation System of the Year Award yesterday, November 9, 2021, by CTAA at its annual EXPO. This award is presented annually to a transportation system that provides service in an urban area with a population of more than 50,000. The award recognizes RTS for our efforts to provide accessible and equitable transportation services, which include:

  • Innovative and creative services in the community
  • Being responsive to its customers’ and community needs
  • Actively coordinating and collaborating with other public and special services transportation
  • Effectively helping the community accomplish their goals
  • Creating partnerships with a wide range of organizations, both public and private
  • Providing accessible transportation service
  • Building transportation alternatives that are intended to meet a wide range of the communities’ needs

“RTS is excited and honored to receive this national award,” said Regional Transit Service CEO Bill Carpenter. “I thank the RTS board and team for their hard work, innovation, collaboration with community partners, and unwavering focus on serving our customers. I thank our customers for their partnership and providing input that helps us improve our transit system. And I thank CTAA for their leadership and for recognizing our efforts with this award.”

METRO Magazine’s Innovative Solutions Award

METRO Magazine announced last week during the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) EXPO the winners of its Innovative Solutions Awards. RTS and Masabi were recognized with an Innovative Solutions Award for fare collection for their work together to launch the world’s first Account-Based Ticketing solution powered by Masabi’s MaaS-enabled Fare Payments-as-a-Service platform, in the Transit app. The fare payment system, which is called RTS Go, was launched in July 2020. RTS Go provides RTS customers with contactless fare payment via mobile app and smart card technology.

METRO Magazine’s Innovative Solutions Awards honor bus operations and their suppliers who have implemented initiatives that helped them save money, run more efficiently, streamline operations, increase safety, improve customer satisfaction, increase ridership and more.

“The RTS team is excited to be recognized both for the innovative nature of our work with Masabi and the benefit of the RTS Go/Transit App solution for our customers. Partnerships are often successful when the parties involved are on the same page and working towards the same goal. For this project, we saw an opportunity to provide more benefits for our customers. That vision aligned with that of Masabi, and led to the successful integration of their fare payment technology with the Transit App. I thank METRO Magazine for this award, Masabi for their innovation and partnership, and the members of the RTS team for bringing the project to life for our customers,” Carpenter added.
