Rochester, NY: Regional Transit Service (RTS) announced today that it will launch Reimagine RTS, the redesign of the transit system in Monroe County on May 17, 2021. Reimagine RTS was initially planned for implementation on June 29, 2020 but was postponed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic delayed Reimagine RTS, we have been adjusting our plans and working to find the right time to launch the new system. I am pleased to announce that our customers will get to experience their new transit system on May 17, 2021,” RTS CEO Bill Carpenter said. “The design of the reimagined transit system was based on the hard work of the RTS team and the input of more than 12,000 people through surveys and more than 200 meetings and events throughout the community. The new system will be more frequent, reliable and connected and we are excited to bring it to life for our customers. I thank the team at RTS for their continued work on this project and I thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we have worked together to navigate the pandemic.”

Customers are encouraged to visit https://reimagine.myrts.com/ to get reacquainted with the coming changes to the system. This includes how their route(s) will change, what the RTS On Demand service is and where the On Demand Zones are.

As the implementation date nears, RTS will announce its plans to help customers prepare for and understand the new system. Until then, customers can begin the learning process by taking the following steps:

  1. View the Old Route/New Route Guide: This guide lists all of the current routes and the corresponding new routes and will help customers identify what their new route(s) will be.
  2. View Route-Specific One-Pagers: RTS has created one-page documents for all of the new routes and On Demand Zones. Once customers have identified their new route numbers, they should then reference the one-page documents to familiarize themselves with their routes and the On Demand Zones to see what they will look like.
  3. Stay Tuned for More Information: RTS will be communicating directly with customers via email, social media, on the bus, at the RTS Transit Center, and through the media as more information and details are available.
  4. Contact RTS with Questions: Customers can contact the RTS Customer Service department anytime with questions and to learn more about the new system.
