RTS announced today that service improvements stemming from the Regional Service Efficiency Study conducted in 2016 will be implemented in Ontario and Seneca Counties on Monday, July 31, 2017.
“These improvements to our transit system are a direct result of the engagement and feedback from customers and stakeholders in these respective communities, and months of hard work from the RTS team,” said Bill Carpenter, CEO at RTS. “We encourage our customers to provide input on the new changes in the coming days and weeks to help us ensure the most efficient operation possible.”
The improvements are as follows:
RTS Ontario
To better serve customer and community needs in Ontario County, service hours will increase across the system and more frequent trips will be made between Geneva and Canandaigua. Details of these changes and additional improvements include:
- Increased weekday service hours:
- Route 253 and 255 trips begin earlier: 5:30am instead of 6:30am.
- Route 254 trips run until 6:30pm; all other routes run until 7:30pm.
- More trip frequency between Geneva and Canandaigua: every hour instead of every 2 hours.
- New shopping shuttle services in Geneva make it easier for residents to access groceries.

RTS Seneca
Routes 1 and 2 will be renamed Routes 281 and 282, and the del Lago Route, providing service to del Lago Resort and Casino, will be renamed 280. Aside from the route name updates, the biggest change includes the interlining of Routes 281 and 282. The details of this and other improvements are as follows:
- Routes 281 and 282 (formerly 1 and 2) are interlined, eliminating the need to transfer at the Seneca County Office Building for service to Seneca Falls, Geneva, or Waterloo. Time points remain the same.
- The former Routes 3 and 4 will be replaced with premium demand response (“Dial-a-Ride”), increasing trip flexibility and areas served.
- Connections to Ontario County remain in place via service on Routes 281 and 282.

About the Regional Efficiency Project
In 2016, RTS studied its services in Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties to identify service improvements and connections across counties. The improvements being rolled out in 2017 were informed by the input provided by customers and stakeholders in each county. Updates in Genesee and Wyoming Counties were introduced on June 30; improvements in Livingston, Orleans and Wayne Counties will be rolled out later this year.
