Rochester, NY: Bill Carpenter, the CEO of the Regional Transit System (RTS) and President of the New York Public Transit Association, released the following statement today on the passage of the New York State budget and its impact on public transit in our community.

“Providing better transit for better communities requires support from our elected leaders in Albany. Thanks to Governor Cuomo, Senate Transportation Chair Joe Robach, Assembly Transportation Chair David Gantt, Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle, and the entire New York State delegation in the Finger Lakes area, RTS received that support in the budget that was passed on Sunday.

“I also thank the many advocates, businesses, customers and organizations in the community that helped us get the message across to lawmakers that public transit in our area is more than a bus system. It is a key component of our state’s infrastructure that supports and sustains job growth and economic development efforts. And it is a lifeline for people who rely on public transit to get to work, school, medical appointments, retail and recreational opportunities. Thanks to our elected leaders in Albany, we are making it easier for our customers to enjoy the ride.
