RTS Announces Service Changes to Provide Customers with More Consistent and Efficient Service

June 23, 2016

Regional Transit Service (RTS) today announced new service changes that will go into effect on Monday, June 27, 2016, making it easier for customers to enjoy the ride. The new and modified routes will provide customers with more consistent, efficient and reliable service.

Routes 4 Genesee, 23 Jefferson, 47 Monroe, and 51 S. Clinton are the primary existing routes that are being modified. The new route being introduced is the 163 Lyell Limited. The highlights of these service changes include:

Route 47 Monroe Ave. is being modified to create more consistent and efficient service along Monroe Avenue from Downtown Rochester to Brighton and Pittsford. Customers will see less overcrowding during the week, additional trip times that extend weekday service to midnight down Monroe Ave. to Pittsford, and a streamlined route that makes Monroe Ave. the primary transit corridor. The newly modified route will travel between the RTS Transit Center and the Village of Pittsford, including stops at 12 Corners in Brighton and Pittsford Plaza. Service to the S. Winton Rd. area and The Jewish Home will now be provided by Route 23 Jefferson and Route 51 S. Clinton, respectively. More information about the changes to Route 47 Monroe and an updated map are available on the RTS website.

Route 163 Lyell Limited is being introduced to provide faster service to the Mall at Greece Ridge. This new limited stop service route will provide additional service and faster trips between the RTS Transit Center and the Mall at Greece Ridge, reducing the travel time from approximately 45 minutes to 33 minutes. Route 163 Lyell will run in addition to Route 3G Lyell service and will leave the RTS Transit Center approximately every hour on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. A list of the outbound and inbound stops along Route 163 Lyell Limited is available on the RTS website.

Route 23 Jefferson Road will now provide service on weekdays to the S. Winton Rd. area that is currently being provided by Route 47 Monroe. This will include weekday service to The Jewish Home and the Winton Place Design Center.

Route 51 S. Clinton will now be extended only on weekends to provide service to The Jewish Home on S. Winton Rd.

Route 4 Genesee is being simplified to make it easier for customers to understand the route. The modification includes streamlining the route on Genesee between Main Street and Elmwood Avenue, which will make it easier for customers traveling back and forth on Genesee and those traveling to Strong Hospital.

“The service changes going into effect this month are designed to provide more consistent and efficient service for our customers and represent our latest effort to make it easier for them to enjoy the ride,” said Bill Carpenter, CEO of RTS. “Our customers have told us that they want more frequent and reliable service to our community’s most popular destinations and these changes are being made to address their needs.”
